Service Definition® is a complete system that allows you to implement "best practices" for your IT department, without the need for external consultants. Service Definition® takes a practical approach to ITIL implementation and offers a complete set of processes, procedures and step-by-step instructions, designed specifically for users of the popular Track-It!® helpdesk application. This methodology includes clear and simple Processes (what needs to be done), Procedures (how it needs to be done) and detailed Work Instructions (step-by-step guides for every employee involved in the process).
 
The Service Definition methodology is now available "out of the box" in a highly customizable web-based application, which is used by consultants and corporate end users all over the world. This innovative product allows users to easily document, edit and publish their processes and procedures, eliminating the need for written documentation and providing an on-line resource for IT staff, employees and service managers
 
Service Definition® can be installed on any system running a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft Windows XP Professional operating system (32-bit only). It incorporates its own database and web platform, thus eliminating the need to install and manage external web servers or databases. The product also includes full backup and restore capability.
 
Service Definition covers the following areas of IT service management. The product includes complete documentation (Processes, Procedures and step-by-step Work Instructions) for the following key areas of IT Service Management:
  • Incident and Request Management
  • Task Management (Assignments)
  • Asset Management (Inventory)
  • Problem Management
  • Change Management
The "best practices" documentation included with Service Definition® is based on ITIL and other industry standards. Service Definition for Numara Track It!

Service Definition® contains highly detailed information for users of the Track-It!® helpdesk application. Processes have been streamlined to take advantage of specific functionality in the product, and step-by-step instructions are provided to tell users how to follow the procedures using the standard interfaces and features available in the Track-It!® application.
 
A quick reference guide is also provided to help administrators customize and optimize Track-It!® for ITIL processes. Service Definition® helps users understand how to use the Track-It!® product to get their job done faster, more efficiently and in accordance with ITIL "best practices".
 
Highly customizable and easy to use
The processes and procedures included with the product can be easily customized. New procedures can be created in minutes, and the text can even be copied and pasted from Word. No prior technical knowledge or training is required.
  
Online help for the Service Desk forms
Most of the ITIL processes require users to fill out a form in the Service Desk (for example: to register an Incident or assign a Work Order). A field-by-field description of the main Service Desk forms is provided, with practical information that helps users to understand and use every field in the form. This information is easily customized, as with all of the information provided with the product.
   
Glossary of terms
The practical and easy-to-use glossary is fully customizable and comes with over 100 standard ITIL-based vocabulary definitions. When a vocabulary word appears in a text, it is highlighted and if the user hovers the mouse over the word, the definition appears on the screen.

1. Download and read the Administrators Guide
The Administrators Guide can be found in the Product Documentation page of this website. This easy-to-read manual contains all the information you need to know about the application, from installation and initial configuration tasks to more advanced administrative features.
 
2. Evaluate the product as User
Browse through the processes, procedures and instructions and you will see how helpful Service Definition can be for new employees and staff members.
 
3. Evaluate the product as Administrator
The standard process documentation included with Service Definition can be modified to suit your organization's needs. From the home page, you can log into Service Definition as Administrator, using these credentials:

          User name: admin
          Password: admin

Feel free to modify anything you want, but please keep in mind that other users may see your modifications. Please consult the Administrators Guide should you have any questions regarding how to create or modify content.
